Goucher Women's Basketball Falls To Susquehanna
SELINGROVE, Pa. – Goucher College falls to Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference women's basketball action on Saturday.
Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) notched her second-straight double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds while also recording six steals on the afternoon. The 13 rebounds match her career high that she established when she notched her first career double-double against Yeshiva on December 30. It marks the seventh-straight game in double figures in points and 16th time this season. The freshman has posted consecutive 10-rebound outputs for the first time in her career and now has four 10+-rebound performances in her career. In addition, Williams has registered five thefts for the fourth time in her last five games and for the sixth time this season.
Nicole Wolard (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) added 11 points and six rebounds on the afternoon. The senior has posted double figures in points in six of her last eight games and 12 times this season. Wolard has also grabbed at least five rebounds in 13 of her last 14 games and 17 times this season.
Wolard scored the first basket of the game for a quick 2-0 edge and Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) gave Goucher a 4-2 lead with a jumper at 7:45. Susquehanna then took the lead and with the Riverhawks holding an 8-7 edge closed out the first half with a 13-2 run to take a 21-9 lead after one quarter.
In the second quarter with Susquehanna leading 27-15, the Gophers scored the final five points to go into halftime trailing 27-20. Williams nailed a triple and a jumper in the final 44 seconds of the period.
Williams stayed hot and scored the first basket of the second half to make it a five-point game. The Riverhawks then went on an 11-5 run to extend its lead to 38-27 and ended the third quarter with a 41-32 lead.
Susquehanna used a 22-11 fourth quarter to earn the 63-43 victory.
McFadden finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Goucher returns to action on Wednesday at home against Juniata College. Game time is 7 p.m.
