Anise Williams Named Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Rookie Of The Year; Williams Also Nabs All-Second-Team Honors
BALTIMORE, Md. – Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School), a member of the Goucher College women's basketball team, has been named the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year announced by the league on Wednesday. In addition, Williams was named to the All-Landmark Conference second team.
Williams paced the Gophers and ranked third in the conference with 15.6 points per game while averaging 5.9 rebounds per game. The freshman also paced the circuit in steals per game (3.58) and steals (86) and ranked 15th in NCAA Division III in steals per game and 21st in steals. She scored double figures in 20 of her 24 games including four 20-point performances. The freshman also had four double-digit rebound performances and three double-doubles. In a 79-76 victory against Yeshiva, Williams registered a career-high 27 points and 13 rebounds. The freshman notched a steal in 23 of 24 games, at least three steals 15 times, five steals eight times and recorded a career-best nine thefts against Juniata College on January 16.
Williams becomes the first Goucher women's basketball player to be named Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year. She also becomes the sixth player to be selected for all-conference and the fourth to garner a second-team selection in the Landmark Conference.
Her all-conference selection is also the 27th time a Gopher women's basketball player has earned all-conference recognition counting Capital Athletic Conference and Chesapeake Women's Athletic Conference selections dating back to the 1985-86 season. The list Williams joins include 2019 Goucher Athletic Hall of Famers Jen Kamueller Kubista C '91 and Katie Guggino C'04, who combined for five all-conference awards and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on May 3, 2019 on campus.
The Gophers made great strides in 2018-19 including increasing its points per game average by 22.0 points. Williams and fellow freshman Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair), who averaged 13.4 points per game, gave Goucher two players ranked in the Top-10 in the league in scoring.
