Goucher Announces Time Changes To Home Doubleheader Against Moravian On February 15
BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College has announced game time changes to its men's and women's basketball home doubleheader against Moravian College on Saturday, February 15 at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
The Gophers-Greyhounds women's basketball game, originally scheduled for 4 p.m., has been moved to 2 p.m. Goucher College will celebrate National Girls and Women's In Sports Day before the game and it is will also be Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Last year, Goucher's field hockey, women's soccer, women's volleyball, women's lacrosse and women's tennis each ran a quick clinic about each sport during a two-hour play day for National Girls and Women In Sports Day on February 2, 2019. The women's basketball team also participated in the event before taking on and ending in a closely contested game against Drew University. After the clinic, the girls were treated to pizza and were invited to watch the women's basketball game against the Rangers.
The game against Drew last season also served as the Breast Cancer Awareness Day where donations were collected, a select number of pink t-shirts were sold for $12 each and a 50-50 raffle was held. In addition, both the men's and women's basketball teams wore pink t-shirts for warmups. Paige Koerner, the Community Outreach Specialist for The Red Devils, also addressed the crowd at halftime. Close to $500 was raised for the The Red Devils organization.
Details on both events including signup information for National Girls and Women In Sports Day will be announced shortly.
With the women's basketball game taking the 2 p.m. time slot on February 15, the Gopher men's basketball game against Moravian will move back to a 4 p.m. start. The game will also serve as senior day for Goucher seniors Pat Goralski (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Dwayne Morton (Baltimore, Md./Waynesville [Mo.]). Morton currently sits in 11th place in program record with 944 career points and he continues his march to the 1,000-point plateau.
The women's basketball senior day for Kerry Chun (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) will be on Wednesday, February 12 against Elizabethtown College. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
The Goucher men's basketball team will continue to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the program and athletic department's first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament win against Lebanon Valley during the 1994-95 season. Several players from that team and the 1993-94 Capital Athletic Conference regular season and tournament title teams have come back and served as guest coaches, including Marc Cousins (vs. Johns Hopkins), all-time leading scorer and Goucher Hall of Famer David Clark (vs. Salisbury), Peter Manlove (vs. Scranton) and Jeff Klein (at West Palm Beach Tournament). Each guest coach has an interview available by clicking on their name as they relive their time at Goucher along with Clay Nunley, who was interviewed when the team was at the Dick Leftwich Tipoff Tournament. More guest coaches will be announced shortly.
Both the men's and women's basketball teams return to action on Wednesday. The men will host Elizabethtown while the women will face the Blue Jay women on the road. Both contests start at 7 p.m.
