Goucher Women's Basketball Falters At Drew
MADISON, N.J. – Goucher College drops a Landmark Conference women's basketball contest at Drew University on Saturday. The Gophers were coming off their first conference win of the year with a 61-57 victory at Juniata on Wednesday.
Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) paced Goucher with 15 points and eight rebounds. The freshman shot 5-for-8 from the floor and 5 of 9 from the free throw line for her 10th double-figure point performance of the season including her seventh in conference play. Quarles has led the team in scoring five times in the last 14 games. It is the 13th time this season she has hauled in at least eight caroms and she is averaging 11.5 rebounds per game in her last four tilts.
Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) added 12 points, four steals and three assists. Williams reached double figures for the third-straight game and the sixth time in the last seven contests. She has posted 10+ points in 16 of the 20 games this season and the 36 of 44 games she has played while she needs 15 points to reach the 700-point mark. The sophomore has tallied four or more steals 13 times this season and 23 times in her two years in Baltimore.
Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) chipped in seven points and six rebounds.
Drew used a 24-11 first quarter and a 16-10 second frame to take a 40-22 lead going into the locker room. The Rangers then posted a 23-12 third quarter and a 20-14 fourth quarter to earn an 83-47 win.
Goucher returns to action when the teams returns home to host Elizabethtown College on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m. Prior to the contest, the Gophers will honor senior Kerry Chun (Honolulu, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute), who has appeared in 73 games including 58 starts in her four-year career.
