Goucher Women's Basketball Toppled At Catholic
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Goucher College lost to Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday.
Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) paced the Gophers with 15 points, six steals, four rebounds and three assists. The sophomore reached double figures for the 19th time this season and 40th time in her career including her ninth game this season that she has registered 15 points or more. Williams also tallied at least six steals for the sixth time this season and will go into the season finale with 93 steals, needing nine thefts to tie Renie Amoss' (102, 1993-94) single-season program record.
Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) also had 15 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. Quarles reached double figures for the eighth time in the last 11 games and for the 12th time this season. The freshman, who registered a conference career-high 21 points in the first meeting against Catholic, has recorded double figures in points in eight of the 12 conference games this year.
Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) added 13 points and six rebounds. McFadden will go into the season finale needing eight rebounds for 400 boards in her career and 29 points for 700 points in her career. It was the 15th time this season the sophomore has scored double figures.
Jorryn Avery (Glen Burnie, Md./Severn School) chipped in 10 points for Goucher. Avery ranked fourth on the team with seven 10+ games this season while she has nine in her career.
The Gophers played a good first quarter despite being outscored 18-12 in the opening frame. The Cardinals then posted a 27-14 second quarter to take a 45-26 lead. Catholic used a 22-11 third quarter and then edged Goucher 20-18 to earn an 87-55 victory.
The Gophers return to action and wrap up the regular season at the University of Scranton. Game time is 4 p.m.
