Goucher Athletics Announces Josephine E. Fiske Female Gopher Pride Winners
BALTIMORE, Md. – Adeline Callihan (Keane, N.H./ Making Community Connections Charter) and Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) have been named the winners of the Josephine E. Fiske Female Gopher Pride Award. Callihan is a senior on the equestrian team, and Williams is a junior on the women's basketball team.
The Josephine E. Fiske Gopher Pride Award was established in 1986 and is presented annually to one male and one female student in good academic standing who play important roles in the success of their teams. Variables to be weighed in determining the recipients of this award include, but are not limited to: sportsmanship, citizenship, positive attitude, leadership, and service to young adults or children.
"I am beyond proud to present the Josephine E. Fiske Pride Award to Adeline Callihan," said equestrian head coach Jen Smith. "She has led the Goucher equestrian team with great dedication for the last three years. She is a fierce competitor, a generous teammate, and compassionate leader."
Callihan was undefeated for two years, including a win at the Tournament of Champions in 2019, and she defeated National Champions at competitions. She posted two first-place ribbons and three second-place ribbons in an abbreviated 2021 season in the intermediate flat and intermediate fences.
"I am so honored and excited to be receiving the Fiske Award this year," said Callihan. "I want to thank my teammates for all the hard work this year. It was a strange year, but we made it work, and the amount of success that we were able to achieve this year under such trying times was an inspiring thing to be a part of"
Williams posted 743 career points in just two seasons and has reached double figures in 40 of the 49 games she played with 11 20-point performances. The 2019 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year paced the conference and ranked nationally in steals and steals per game in each of her first two seasons.
"Anise is a fierce competitor that challenges her to achieve at the same level academically that she does athletically," said women's basketball head coach Andrea Preston. "I am proud of the growth that she has had since her first year here, and I am proud to recognize Anise as a Josephine E. Fiske Gopher Pride Award winner."
"I want to thank Coach Preston for nominating me for this award and for believing in me to be the leader she wanted me to be when I didn't even think I could be a leader," said Williams. "I am so grateful to win this award, and I cannot wait to get back on campus and continue our run."
Along with Callihan and Williams, Erica Buzolmi (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) (women's soccer) and Caroline Doll (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) (field hockey) were also nominated.
