Goucher visits Navy for Exhibition
Midshipmen uses strong second half to top Gophers in exhibition.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Gophers travelled to the state capital for an exhibition against the United States Naval Academy before the holiday break.
- Navy (3-6) opened up a 14-7 lead midway through the first quarter.
- The Gophers capitalized on scrappy play and defensive stops to scrape their way to a 15-22 first quarter score.
- Goucher was powered early by Maiya Villanueva and Merci Turner.
- The Gophers opened the second with baskets by Brianna Johnson and Briyah Haggins to make it a 3 point game.
- The Mids went on a 20 point run to open up the game in the second led by Kyah Smith.
- Navy opened up more scoring putting 30+ points in the third.
- The Gophers used their athleticism by attacking from beyond the arch with three's from Julia Cavoli, Villanueva, Darby Sherman and Haggins.
- The play of the game came at the end of the third when Darby Sherman threw a prayer up from half court to beat the buzzer.
- The Midshipmen continued their scoring behind a stellar fourth quarter from Kyah Smith.
- Merci Turner kept her scoring lead with points from the charity stripe.
- Turner led Goucher with 19 points and five rebounds, going 6-12 from the floor and 2-3 from beyond the three point line.
- Briyah Haggins totaled 11 points and six rebounds and six assists.
- Villanueva and Cavoli both tallied 5 a piece with Sherman adding 6 from beyond the arch.
- Goucher is on break until December 30th when they travel to Shenandoah for their last non-conference tilt before returning home in 2024 on January 3rd hosting Wilkes.
