Gophers place Three in Double Digits at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a strong showing in the first ten minutes by Goucher, host Moravian rallied back in the final three quarters for a 78-54 Landmark Conference women's basketball win Wednesday evening at Johnston Hall.
- Merci Turner opened the scoring for the Gophers (1-17, 1-10 Landmark) with a 3-pointer just under a minute into the game.
- The Gophers and the Greyhounds (8-11, 7-5 Landmark) battled, trading scores for the next four minutes, leaving Goucher ahead 10-9 (6:05).
- The game's two-minute scoreless drought was ended by a 3-pointer by Maiya Villanueva, putting the Gophers up 13-9 with 3:57 left.
- Back-to-back three-pointers by Villanueva pushed Goucher's lead to 19-9, with 2:35 remaining in the quarter.
- Moravian rallied back to cut Goucher's lead to 22-15 at the end of the quarter.
- Moravian scored the first eight points of the quarter, with Savannah Holmes ending this run with a made free throw with 8:16 left before halftime.
- The Greyhounds used this quarter to extend their lead over the Gophers, outscoring them 16-7 for the remainder of the quarter.
- Briyah Haggins earned the final points of the quarter, bringing the Gophers within nine (39-30).
- The Gophers began the scoring in the second half, with Haggins finishing a jump shot at 9:44.
- Moravian's 6-2 run ended with a pair of free throws made by Turner with just over half the quarter remaining.
- The Greyhounds ended the quarter with a layup in the final second, leading the Gophers 40-57.
- Darby Sherman earned her first points of the game with a jump shot after securing the defensive rebound two minutes into the final frame.
- Julia Cavoli ended an 8-2 run for Moravian with a made 3-pointer with 4:54 left in the game.
- Haggins scored four of the final seven points for the Gophers, her final bucket with 57 seconds remaining in the contest.
- Turner concluded scoring on the evening with a made free throw.
- Turner led the team in both points and rebounds, with 16 points and eight rebounds this evening.
- Haggins was the second Gopher in double digits this game, earning 12 points on the night with six rebounds.
- Villanueva had 11 points on the evening, making her the third Gopher with double digits.

- Goucher shot 34.5% overall, 7-25 beyond the arc, and 7-10 from the free throw line.
- The Greyhounds shot 43.4% overall, 4-16 from long range, and 8-14 from the free throw line.
- Moravian earned 52 rebounds, with 18 of those being offensive rebounds, while Goucher had 34 rebounds, six being offensive rebounds.
- Goucher returns home this Saturday, January 27 to host nationally-ranked Scranton at 4 pm at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
