Gophers Set Single-Game Scoring Record for Second TIme in 2024-25

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's basketball team set a single game scoring record for the second time this season and recoorded the second-largest margin of victory in program history, defeating Trinity Washington University 135-45 Friday afternoon in the first round of the Renie Amoss Tip-Off Classic at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Goucher (3-0) used a 13-2 run to open a 30-12 lead with 2:15 remaining in the first quarter after a Meona Boykin basket.
- The Gophers led Trinity Washington (1-3) 44-14 after the first after a late Darby Sherman three-pointer.
- The Gophers scored the first four points of the second to push the lead to 48-14.
- Two Brianna Johnson free throws at the 2:06 mark made it a 69-20 game.
- Goucher led 73-24 at the break.
- Goucher opened the second half on a 24-0 run to build the lead to 97-24.
- A Leila Townsend three gave the Gophers 100 points for the third straight game with 2:40 on the clock.
- The hosts led 108-32 with 10 minutes remaining.
- Goucher surpassed the previous school record for points in a game with 1:17 left when Amira Whitaker made a shot to make it 132-45.
- A Savannah Holmes three with 25 seconds to go closed out the game.
- Goucher's 135 points eclipses the previous record of 131 set last Saturday against Valley Forge.
- The Gophers have averaged 127 points per game through the first three games.
- Goucher also broke program records for points in a quarter (44) and half (73) set last week.
- The Gophers had a season-high and Landmark Conference record 39 steals as they forced 51 Trinity turnovers.
- Goucher's 90-point margin of victory is the second-largest in the program record book.
- Goucher outrebounded the Tigers 72-55 and committed just 12 turnovers.
- Boykin paced Goucher with 30 points, 12 rebounds and nine steals, going 14-24 from the floor.
- Johnson posted 14 points, while Merci Turner contributed 13 points and seven boards.
