Gophers Win Seventh Game in Triple Digits Against Wilson

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College Gophers (8-3, 1-3 Landmark) beat the visiting Wilson College Pheonix (3-9, 2-1 United East) 121-74, earning their seventh triple digit victory on the season.

• The Gophers began the scoring of the contest, with a layup by Chi Igwe just four seconds into the game.
• Goucher and Wilson battled back-and-forth, with the Gophers leading by 14-12 halfway through the quarter.
• Goucher used a strong end to the quarter to extend their lead, with four different players hitting 3-point shots. 
• Two made free-throws by Kiara Vaselaros pushed the Gophers to a 40-17 lead at the end of the first.

• Meona Boykin scored the first eight points of the quarter, collecting two steals in the process.
• Amira Whitaker, Briyah Haggins, and Maiya Villanueva all added three point plays, pushing the Gophers to a 59-24 lead with 6:12 left in the half. 
• The Gophers two minute scoring drought was ended by a pair of free throws from Merci Turner. 
• The Pheonix score the final points of the half with a made free throw, following a layup.

• Nia George scored the first points half following a defensive rebound.
• Goucher had a two minute point deficit, ended by a 3-pointer by Darby Sherman, where Wilson added six points to their total.
• The quarter was evenly matched, with both teams scoring 22 points.

• Zion Pace added her first score of the game, following a layup by Turner.
• Lelia Townsend added five points for the Gophers.
• Sherman added the last score for Goucher with a made 3-point shot with 52 seconds left in the game.

• Boykin led the Gophers with 25 points, followed by Sherman with 15 points.
• Boykin finished 10-15 from the floor, also leading the team with 8 rebounds. 
• Haggins collected four assists and three blocks in the game, Savannah Holmes and Whitaker each collected a block as well.
• Lauryn Towns, Zion McCoy, and Turner each added four steals to the Gophers total.
• Goucher outrebounded Wilson 58-51, and forced 51 Pheonox turnovers, resulting in 51 points.
• The Gophers shot 41.2% in the game, going 15-36 beyond the arc, while the Pheonix shot 33.3% in the game, going 1-11 for 3-point shots.
• Wilson shot 33-49 from the charity stripe, while the Gophers went 26-39. 

• The Gophers travel to face Wilkes University in a Landmark Conference matchup on January 8th at 5pm.
• Goucher returns home on January 11th to play the first game of the double-header against Juniata College at 2pm.
