Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Gophers to Conference Win

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The visiting Gophers of Goucher College (9-3 overall, 2-3 Landmark) use a strong fourth quarter to propel themselves against the Colonels of Wilkes University (0-12 overall, 0-5 Landmark).
- Nia Edens begins the scoring for the Gophers with a made layup just 20 seconds into the game.
- Back-to-back three point plays for Goucher from Edens and Lauryn Towns push the Gophers to a 12-7 lead halfway through the quarter.
- Edens scored the final points of the quarter off free-throws to put Goucher up 24-18.
- Towns kicked off the scoring for the Gophers with 9:02 remaining on the clock.
- The Colonels rallied back and scored six unanswered points, which was capped by a layup from Chi Igwe.
- Sanai Knox scored the next four points for the Gophers, which helped maintain the lead 32-28 (3:57).
- Towns, Edens, and Knox added the final points for Goucher, assisting in the 38-33 halftime lead.
- Wilkes outscored the Gophers this quarter, 15-14.
- The Colonels scored the first three points of the half, bringing them within two points of the Gophers.
- Following a 3-pointer by Wilkes, the game was tied 41-41 with 6:54 on the clock.
- Meona Boykin put the Gophers back in front with two made free throws just nine seconds later.

- Amira Whitaker and Maiya Villanueva joined the scoring in the fourth to assist the Gophers in the 85-61 victory.
- Goucher outscored Wilkes 27-10 in the final quarter.
- Boykin led the Gophers with 18 points on the evening, she also added seven rebounds and five steals.
- Towns followed with 15 points, but led the team with 14 rebounds and three assists.
- Edens and Knox both recorded double digit performances as well.
- Goucher outrebounded Wilkes 78-52, while forcing 42 Colonels which resulted in 37 Gopher points.
- Goucher shot 28.3% in the game, 10.4% in three-point attempts and went 20-38 from the charity stripe. While Wilkes shot 27.3% on the night, with 23.8% beyond the arc, and capitalized on 26-36 free throws.
- The Gophers return home to face Juniata College on Saturday, January 11th at 2pm in the first game of the double header at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
