Gophers Late Push Secures Victory Over Juniata

TOWSON, Md.- The Goucher College Gophers (10-3 overall, 3-3 Landmark) took on the Eagles of Juniata College (6-7overall, 3-3 Landmark) in a Landmark Conferenece matchup. The Gophers secured a tight win of 103-99, which resulted in the Gophers eighth season win in triple digits. 

• The Gophers scored first, with Amira Whitaker scoring following an offensive rebound just eight seconds in the game.
• Goucher and Juniata traded points, with the Eagles taking an early lead of 12-6 with 6:10 remaining in the game.
• Darby Sherman pushes the Gophers ahead 18-17 with a layup with (3:25) left on the clock. 
• Nia George extended the Gophers lead with a 3-point shot with under three minutes left in the quarter.
• Goucher ended the quarter with a two point lead after a made shot by Lauryn Towns in the final seconds. 

• The Eagles scored the first seven points of the quarter, to push them ahead 32-27 just under a minute into the quarter.
• Meona Boykin and Towns rally back to decrease the Eagles lead to three. 
• Goucher responded to Juniata's six point run with made baskets by Whitaker and Towns.
• Juniata led the Gophers 57-47 going into half.

• Nia Edens began the scoring for the half, with a made shots 13 seconds in.
• Towns chips at the Eagle's lead with a layup and 3-pointer. Boykin also added a made layup.
• A made layup by Sanai Knox and a made shot beyond the arc by Sherman shortened the Eagles lead to five. 
• The Eagles finish the quarter with a seven-point run, to lead the Gophers 77-67.

• Towns ended the nine-point run by the Eagles with a made basket under a minute into the quarter.
• Edens adds to the score for the Gophers with a layup and a made three just 20 seconds after (7:37).
• Goucher went on a 13-7 point run, to take the lead 89-87 after a made layup by Merci Turner.
• The Eagles take a 94-91 lead with 2:54 remaining in the game.
• Shots by Chi Igwe, Edens, Boykin and Whitaker solidify the win for the Gophers.

• Towns led the Gophers with 22 points, closely followed by Whitaker with 21 points. 
• Boykin and Edens also posted double digit performances with 15 and 16 points a piece.
• Towns also collected six rebounds and a block.
• The Eagles outrebounded the Gophers 49-38, and forced 19 turnovers, while the Gophers forced 31.
• Goucher shot 44.8% overall, and went 8-17 beyond the arc, while shooting 60.7% from the free throw line.
• Juniata shot 54.7% in the game, shooting 6-14 on three-point attempts, and 67.6% from the charity stripe.

• The Gophers travel to Eizabethtown to the face the Blue Jays. The game will be at 7pm on Wednesday, January 15th.
• The women return home to face Catholic on Wednesday, January 22nd at 7pm.
