ECAC Loss Ends Record Breaking Season for Gophers

WAYNE, N.J. - After a hard fought game consisting of numerous lead changes, as well as a tied game at half, the Gophers season comes to an end after a 96-87 postseason lost in the ECAC Championships Quaterfinals against Hunter College.
- The Gophers opened the scoring with a made basket from Meona Boykin
- Sanai Knox added a quick basket after off a turnover.
- Hunter added seven points before Nia Edens sunk a three pointer from a Briyah Haggins assist to tie the game 7-7.
- Edens added five of the next six points for Goucher to bring the score to 9-13 with 5:23 left in the quarter.
- Hunter reclaims the lead just a minute later.
- Edens and Amira Whitaker team up for another three-pointer, before the Hawks responding reclaiming the lead once again.
- The Hawks led 22-20 at the end of the quarter.
- Savannah Holmes added the first basket for the Gophers of the second quarter from an assist from Key Vaselaros.
- Knox ended the almost three minute scorelss drought for Goucher with a made basket off her own steal (5:54).
- Edens finished a three-point play after drawing the foul to cut the Hawks lead.
- Merci Turner added points to the board with an assist from Lauryn Towns after coming off the bench.
- Towns and Maiya Villanueva team up to bring the Hawks lead down to six.
- After a series of the teams trading free-throws, Leila Townsend finishes a basket off her own steal (2:02).
- Free throws from Villanueva and Edens ties the game with 1:34 remaining in the quarter.
- A three-pointer from Edens ties the game once again to bring the score to 44-44 going into the half.
- Turner opens the scoring of the half with a three-pointer off a Towns assist.
- Chi Igwe sinks back-to-back threes with assists from Edens and Whitaker to put the Gophers up by five.
- A nine point run by the Hawks was capped by a Boykin basket from a Towns assist.
- Two straight baskets from Townsend outs the Gophers in the lead once again (59-57) with just over three and a half minutes remaining.
- The teams traded baskets, before a three-pointer by Townsend and made free-throws from Nia George builds the lead.
- A last-second bucket from the Hawks brings them within one going into the final quarter.
- Hunter opened the final quarter with a seven point run, which was ended by Boykin finishing two free-throws (8:11).
- Another basket by Boykin, and the second chance play by Holmes ties the game 75-75 with 7:22 remaining.
- The Hawks respond with another small run of six points, which Holmes ended after a three-point basket from the Knox assist.
- Hunter outscored the Gophers 9-2 for the next few minutes, giving them a nine point lead (3:29).
- A three-pointer by Towns from a Boykin assist puts the Gophers within seven with just over a minute to play.
- The final points for the Gophers came from Boykin with 42 seconds left on the clock.
- Edens led the Gophers with 22 points on the night. She also added four steals, two assists, and six rebounds.
- Boykin was the only other Gopher in double digits, adding two steals, and six rebounds to the night.
- There were a total of nine lead changes and 13 times the game was tied. The teams were also even with 39 rebounds a piece.
- Goucher recorded 29 turnovers, where the Hawks capitalized 28 points from. While the Hawks had 31 turnovers, leading to 28 Goucher points.
- The Gophers shot 37.8% on the night, going 10-32 beyond the line, and 75% from the free throw line.
- Hunter shot 56.1% in the contest, shooting 7-16 beyond the three point line, finishing 62.5% from the charity stripe.
