Gunter And Gallina Medal To Pace Goucher Track And Field At Landmark Conference Championships
BALTIMORE, Md. – Taylor Gunter (Laurel, Md./Sandy Spring Friends School) and Anna Gallina (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) both earned medals to pace the Goucher College at the Landmark Conference Outdoor Track And Field Championships on Sunday.
Gunter, who won the discus with a throw of 36.34m on Saturday, placed second in the shot put with a toss of 10.90m and also finished fourth in the hammer. The junior also won the shot put and placed second in the weight throw at the indoor championships and was also named Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week twice.
Gallina earned the bronze medal in the 100m with a time of 13.03. It marks the second time she has finished in the Top-3 in the 100m after finishing second in the event last year. She also placed second in the 60m in the indoor championships in February.
Mikayla Hinnant (Waldorf, Md/Westlake) and Devon Esslinger (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) just missed medaling after finishing fourth. Hinnant was fourth in the shot put (33.02m) while Esslinger placed fourth in both the 110m hurdles (16.22) and in the triple jump (12.93m).
Sydney Smith (Falls Church, Va./George Mason HS) was seventh in the 100m (13.38) while Darby Bauer (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown Area) was eighth in the hammer (40.70) and Brandon Julot (Baltimore, Md./The SEED School of Maryland) was ninth in the shot put (12.17m).
The relay team of Gallina, Jennifer Alves (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery), Charlotte Birnbaum (Princeton, Md./West Windsor-Plainsboro North and Smith placed sixth in the 4x100m relay (53.80) and Alves, Gallina, Smith and Hannah Brogan (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) placed seventh in the 4x400m relay (4:48.80).
On the men's side, Miles (Mia) Taylor, Langston Henry (New York, N.Y./Grace Church School), Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) and Esslinger finished fifth in the 4x100m relay (46.61) while Henry, Matthew Knudson (Washington, D.C./E.L. Haynes), Taylor and Esslinger placed seventh in the 4x400m relay (4:12.95).
Henry also posted an 11-place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:06.95) while Brogan was 15 with a personal-best time in the 3000m steeplechase (12:58.09).
